Atomic Nanofabrication using a Nanopencil — •Martin Müller, Mario Mützel, Dietmar Haubrich, Ulrich Rasbach, and Dieter Meschede — Institut für Angewandte Physik der Universität Bonn
The atomic nanopencil introduces a serial method for Atomic Nanofabrication. It has been realized in our group for the first time at the micron size level. The flux of a transversely laser cooled cesium beam is spin-polarized and further enhanced with a magnetic quadrupole, which channels the atoms onto an aperture with a diameter on the order of hundreds of nanometers. This aperture defines the feature size of the written structures. By moving a substrate behind the aperture, we can create arbitrary patterns. The general scheme as well as our results will be presented in the talk.
