Phase transition of trapped interacting Bose gases — •Oliver Zobay, Georgios Metikas, and Gernot Alber — Theoretical Quantum Physics, Technical University Darmstadt, 64289 Darmstadt, Germany

We investigate the phase transition of interacting Bose gases in general power-law traps in the thermodynamic limit. Using Wilson’s energy-shell renormalization and the epsilon-expansion, we evaluate the partition function for the symmetric gas phase within a renormalization group framework. Results for the critical temperature are compared to a mean-field theory for trapped Bose gases. For the special cases of harmonic and homogeneous traps, we find the RG approach to agree well with existing results.
