Stability of macroscopic entanglement under decoherence — •Marc Hein1,2, Wolfgang Duer1,2, and Hans Juergen Briegel1,21Theoretische Physik, LMU Muenchen — 2Institut fuer Theoretische Physik, U Innsbruck

We investigate the lifetime of macroscopic entanglement in graph states under the influence of decoherence due to different noise models. Among these noise models are the depolarizing channel, noise models described by quantum optical master equations of the Lindblad form and some correlated noise models. For GHZ-type superposition states we find that the lifetime decreases with the size of the system (i.e. the number of independent degrees of freedom) and the effective number of subsystems that remain entangled decreases with time. For cluster states, however, we show that the lifetime of entanglement is independent of the size of the system. We generalize the results to states also produced by some Ising-type interaction but with different interaction times.
