The role of the phase in femtosecond pulse sequence experiments studied on a two-photon transition — •Matthias Wollenhaupt, Andreas Präkelt, Cristian Sarpe-Tudoran, Marc Krug, and Thomas Baumert — University of Kassel, Institute of Physics and Center for Interdisciplinary Nanostructure Science and Technology (CINSaT), Heinrich-Plett-Str. 40, D-34132 Kassel, Germany

Pulse sequences generated with delay lines and spectral pulse modulation techniques are often employed for coherent control experiments. We investigate the role of delay and spectral phase modulation on a two-photon transition in atomic sodium. The sodium D-line serves as the observable. Popular phase modulations like polynomial, π-jump and sinusoidal phase functions in combination with the delay of a pulse pair were studied. The physical difference between delay and spectral group delay modulation is discussed.
