Light induced dipole-dipole interaction in strongly confined BECs — •Robert Löw, Rudolf Gati, Rolf Heidemann, Ulrich Raitzsch, Jürgen Stuhler, and Tilman Pfau — 5. Physikalisches Institut, Universität Stuttgart, Pfaffenwaldring 57, 70550 Stuttgart
In dense BECs the forces due to light induced dipole-dipole interaction can exceed the forces due to spontaneous emission. We show that the effect of the dipole-dipole interaction depends on the shape of the condensate and the polarization of the light field due to the longrange character and the anisotropy of the interaction. We present calculations in the Raman-Nath regime of light pulses short compared to the motional time scale, that take retardation effects into account. The state of the corresponding experiment will be reported.
