Investigation of long-range interactions of calcium atoms — •O. Allard, St. Falke, H. Knöckel, and E. Tiemann — Institut für Quantenoptik, Universität Hannover, Welfengarten 1, 30167 Hannover, Germany
Recent results on the photoassociation of two calcium atoms at the 1P1+1S0 asymptote[1] and the development of an optical frequency standard on the 1S0→3P1(mj=0) intercombination transition[2] show the necessity for a quantitative description of the cold collision properties.
We published recently results on the 1S0+1S0 asymptote obtained by Doppler-limited molecular spectroscopy allowing us to set confidence intervals for the C6, C8, and C10 coefficients of the dispersion interaction[3]. Moreover, it allowed us to determine the sign of the scattering length.
We develop a molecular beam experiment to perform Doppler-free spectroscopy in order to reach better accuracy for the description of the long-range part of the inter-atomic interaction, e.g., at the 1S0+1S0 ground state asymptote. We will present goals and status of our experiment.
