The seismic isolation chain of the Hannover thermal noise experiment — •Luciano Ribichini, Volker Leonhardt, Harald Lück, and Karsten Danzmann — Max-Planck-Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert-Einstein-Institute) and University of Hannover, Callinstr. 38 D 30167 Hannover

The Hannover thermal noise experiment is designed to measure the off-resonant thermal noise in a macroscopic pendulum system. Due to the seismic noise, this pendulum has to be suspended as the last stage of a multiple stage pendulum chain.

During our work it turned out that the seismic noise is much bigger than expected. Consequently we developed new numerical methods in order to model the pendulum chain. This task is not a trivial one, since the algorithms are known to be unstable.

Some results obtained with these computer simulations and new hypotheses about the effect of the seismic noise will be presented.
