Dynamics and entanglement of photon pulses in a photonic crystal — •Geesche Boedecker and Carsten Henkel — Universität Potsdam, Institut für Physik, Am Neuen Palais 10, 14469 Potsdam
In a photonic crystal, the dispersion relation of light can be tailored to a great extent. Close to a band edge, for example, the group velocity is significantly reduced. For a finite crystal slab, multiple reflections from the end faces transform an incident short pulse to a pulse train. We discuss the group velocity concept and the entanglement properties of the transmitted pulses. The pulse shape inside and outside the crystal is analyzed for a one-dimensional model [1].
