Transport of Bose Einstein Condensates through Mesoscopic Waveguides — •Tobias Paul, Peter Schlagheck und Klaus Richter — Institut für theoretische Physik, Universität Regensburg

The rapid progress of atomic chip technology [1] opens the perspective for a variety of experiments probing the transport of Bose-Einstein condensates in magnetic or optical waveguides. A natural question that arises in this context from the mesoscopic point of view concerns the transmission through waveguide geometries in presence of one or more constrictions.

We address this problem by means of a numerical approach which is based on the Gross-Pitaevskii equation and employs absorbing boundary conditions as well as an inhomogeneous source term in order to obtain a stationary flow of condensate. With this approach, we discuss the transmission properties of the condensate in waveguides with a single constriction (quantum point contact [2]) as well as the resonant transport through a double barrier potential, acting as a Fabry-Perot-like interferometer for the condensate [3].
