Multi-Layer Models of Time Dependent Poroelastic Tilt and Pore Pressure Response to Pumping from Subsoil — •Marcus Fabian1 and Hans-Joachim Kümpel21Fachrichtung Angewandte Geophysik, Universität Bonn, Nussallee 8, 53115 Bonn — 2GGA Institut, Stilleweg 2, 30665 Hannover

Poroelasticity can be used for the modeling of strongly coupled transient tilt and pore pressure signals caused by groundwater withdrawal. These signals bear a wealth of information about fluid reservoirs and generally appear in response to pumping from nearby production wells. The presented models describe pump induced time dependent tilt and pore pressure changes in (a) a homogeneous, (b) a three layer and (c) a four layer half-space. Computation was done with the program POEL developed by R. Wang from GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam. The poroelastic modeling allows better understanding of tilt signals observed above pumped reservoirs and will improve interpretations of induced surface deformation images obtained from tilt measurements at shallow depths.
