DOAS Tomography is a technique for spatially resolved measurements of trace gas distributions. Column densities of one or several trace gases are measured by DOAS (Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy) along multiple light paths, and inverted to concentration distributions by tomographic inversion. The technique will help to investigate trace gas emissions and atmospheric parameters responsible for the spatial and temporal variations of these trace gases. In the framework of the German BMBF project Tom-DOAS and the European project FORMAT, we conduct tomographic measurements from the ground and from aircraft. New instruments are developed. In addition computer tools are developed to optimise instrumental configurations and to invert the measurements. An overview will be given on the Tom-DOAS technique and its capabilities.
