The Air borne Multi AXis DOAS (AMAXDOAS) was successfully operated during two campaigns in winter and summer 2003. During winter it was run aboard the DLR Falcon (2nd airborne campaign for SCIAMACHY validation). The aircraft flew to the Arctic and to the Tropics at about 10 km flight altitude with a total flight track of 6400 km over Europe. In addition the OLEX (Lidar) and the ASUR (Microwave) instruments were operated onboard this aeroplane.
During summer (EU-FORMAT II campaign), the AMAXDOAS was mounted on a small Partenavia 68, which is perfectly suited for flying slowly just above the boundary layer. Here, nine flight tracks (4000 km) were flown in the Po-Valley, in particular around Milano.
With different viewing angles, looking above and below the aircrafts, AMAXDOAS provides profile information of many trace gases e.g.: NO2, BrO, H2O, HCHO, O3, OClO, SO2.
Here results of both campaigns will be presented.
