In this study we extend our ozone investigation from the 1980s to the period from 1959 up to 2001. The results represent a first approximation of the decadal change of longitude-dependent ozone distribution which is unknown for the decades before the FGGE experiment was started in 1978-79. This was possible because the NCEP re-analyses data set (Kalnay et al., 1996, upgrades) cover this period. With the help of a linear transport model for large-scale waves of ozone (Peters et al., 1996) we were able to calculate the decadal ozone changes for all 4 decades. The zonal mean ozone distribution was fixed to January 1979 after McPeters et al. (1989) to study only the result of wave structure changes. We estimated a 3-dimensional distribution of ozone change up to 10hPa (about 30km) but here we focus only on total ozone changes.
