Time-resolved polarized Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy is employed to analyse the structure and dynamics in ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) polymers and elastomers. The specifity of the IR-spectroscopy enables us to study for the different molecular moieties the response to external mechanical end electrical excitations. By that, subtle details of the microscopic motion such as angular excursion, reorientation time, order parameter, asymmetries in the reorientational behaviour or elastomeric memory effects can be unravelled for the system under study.
