Polystyrene thin films are not stable on hydrophobised silicon wafers and upon annealing they dewet, giving rise to circular holes. The rim formed at the border of these holes becomes unstable and presents finger-like patterns. Here we present the results of our studies performed on this type of instability, that is not driven by external forces, both experimentally and theoretically. Results obtained in experiments can be well explained by a theoretical lubrication model that allows for liquid slippage at the liquid/solid interface.
