Investigations of remagnetization processes with Bragg-MOKE — •Andreas Westphalen, Katharina Theis-Bröhl, and Hartmut Zabel — Institut für Experimentalphysik/Festkörperphysik, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, 44780 Bochum
The Bragg-MOKE technique extends the information of standard MOKE measurements by making use of diffraction from regular arrays of magnetic microstructures. Here we have explored the properties of Bragg-MOKE for the investigation of magnetic stripe arrays. The nth order diffraction spot is particularly sensitive to the nth order Fourier component of the magnetization distribution. Accordingly, the shape of the hysteresis loops changes characteristically as a function of n. Furthermore an amplification of the magneto-optical signal is possible. The samples under investigation are stripes of CoFe-alloy and Fe with different grating parameters and stripe widths, which display a variety of different magnetic reversal behaviour.
We would like to thank K. Rott and H. Brückl for the preparation of the CoFe samples, and we acknowledge financial support through SFB 491.
