The energy dependence of alignment and orientation of Kr+ 4p45p states was measured across the resonantly excited Kr 3d95p 1P - states with a bandwidth within their natural line width. Interference processes between overlapping resonances due to lifetime broadening were observed which confirmed our predictions that resonances separated by even 15 times the natural line width can not be regarded as isolated. In this contribution we test experimentally our prediction that interference between direct and resonant excitation produces an energy dependence for the photon induced population of the Kr+ 4p4(1D)5p 2P3/2 state within the line width of the 3d5/295p3/2 resonance centred at 91.2 eV. I.e. the two-step model separating resonant excitation and Auger decay is not applicable in this case.
