A transportable target of ultracold rubidium atoms — •U. Poschinger, W. Salzmann, R. Wester, and M. Weidemüller — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Freiburg, 79104 Freiburg
We present a transportable setup of a rubidium magneto-optical trap combined with a recoil-ion momentum spectrometer for ion collision and laser interaction experiments. The design features a compact and robust diode laser system which delivers the laser beams for a three-beam magnet-optical trap through three optical fibres. This allows for a minimum number of optical components near the vacuum vessel. The first application of the setup is a Rb2 photoassociation experiment using shaped femtosecond laser pulses to investigate coherent control of cold molecule formation (see W. Salzmann et. al at this meeting). This experiment is carried out in collaboration with the group of L. Wöste at the Freie Universität Berlin. Future experiments of ion-atom collisions and strong-field ionization are discussed.
