Collisions in an ultra cold 6Li - 87Rb mixture — •Christoph vom Hagen, Stephan Schneider, Martin Göbel, Christoph Hufnagel, Louw Feenstra, and Jörg Schmiedmayer — Universität Heidelberg, Philosophenweg 12, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany

On our route towards an degenerate Fermi gas of 6Li atoms on an Atom Chip, we have studied the collisional properties of ultra cold 6Li - 87Rb mixture. This mixture has been studied in an magneto-optical trap (MOT) and further research will be extended to magnetic micro traps. Only minimal losses in the dual species MOT were observed and the loss parameters could be measured for the first time. The results from these experiments and first lifetime studies in a magnetic trap give hope that this system is suitable for sympathetic cooling. With this poster we will report on our experimental progress towards achieving degeneracy in a mixed 6Li - 87Rb system using magnetic micro traps and Atom Chips[Fol02].
