Numerical study of an atom in a strong laser pulse: The role of the pulse shape — •P. Panek and A. Becker — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik komplexer Systeme, Nöthnitzer Str. 38, 01187 Dresden
We study the response of an atom to an intense shaped laser pulse. To this end, we use the single-active-electron approach and numerically solve the Schrödinger equation in the discrete basis built by atomic eigenstates. Excitation and ionization probabilities are calculated for different peak intensities and frequencies. Especially, the influence of the shape of the pulse on the electron dynamics is investigated. Our results may give useful insights in the control mechanism of excitation of an atom in intense laser fields.
