US Missile Defenses: Technical and Political Realities — •Lisbeth Gronlund — Union of Concerned Scientists, Cambridge/Mass.
This presentation will begin with a discussion of the current status and future plans of the US program to develop and deploy defenses against long-range missiles. It will cover several technical issues, including the flight intercept test program and what capabilities have been demonstrated through these flight tests; and the predicted effectiveness of the current and planned systems against a long-range missile attack by a developing country. Finally, it will describe the US political debate about missile defenses and its likely impact on the future of the program.
