Origin of dark holographic scattering patterns in photorefractive crystals — •Simon Schwalenberg and Eckhard Krätzig — Universität Osnabrück, Fachbereich Physik, Barbarastrasse 7, 49069 Osnabrück
Recently we have observed and reported dark parametric holographic scattering patterns (dark rings and lines) on a bright scattering background in photorefractive strontium–barium niobate (SBN) and barium–calcium titanate (BCT) crystals. In this talk, we explain the origin of these dark light patterns by applying the model for parametric four–wave mixing processes in photorefractive crystals. According to this model exponential gain factors are calculated for the scattering patterns and compared to the gain calculated for the corresponding scattering background. We interpret the dark scattering patterns as a result of counteracting energy transfer processes.
