Pulsed laser deposition has turned out to be a promising method for the preparation of thin polymer films. Nevertheless not only the chemical properties differ slightly from those of the pure bulk target. Mechanical hardness is increased and depends strongly on the thermal treatment of the films and the deposition conditions like the used laser fluence. Additionally, the complex elastic modulus depends on the frequency as well as the temperature at which it is observed. This behavior, which is common for amorphous polymers, was observed via mechanical spectroscopy. In this contribtion mechanical characteristics are discussed with respect to chemical structure and preparation parameters.
