Quantum Chaos Experiments with Microwave Billiards — •F. Schäfer, B. Dietz, T. Friedrich, H.-D. Gräf, A. Heine, and A. Richter — TU Darmstadt, Institut für Kernphysik, Schlossgartenstr. 9, 64289 Darmstadt
We present experiments with normal conducting as well as with superconducting microwave resonators.
With the help of different experimental setups eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of arbitrarily shaped cavities can be measured. Due to an isomorphy between the Schroedinger equation and the Helmholtz equation describing two-dimensional electromagnetic resonantors, these investigations give insight to quantum chaotic phenomena. In experiments with normal conducting resonators at room temperature we address – among other aspects – effects connected with the breaking of time-reversal symmetry.
