Variations of the Mn I 539.47 nm spectral line parameters with solar activity — •Sanja Danilovic and Istvan Vince — Astronomical Observatory, Volgina 7, 11160 Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro
The Mn I 539.47 nm line in the solar spectra exhibits many interesting features: the profile of this line exhibits large broadening (splitting) caused by hyperfine structure. Also, although Mn I 539.47 nm line is photospheric, spectroheliograms taken in the core of this line display cromospheric features. Full-disk spectrophotometric observations show that Mn I 539.47 nm line profile varies during the solar activity cycle. Furthermore, the line parameters (equivalent width and central depth) correlate extremely well with Mg II c/w index. This behavior is only qualitatively explained by sensitivity of Mn I 539.47 nm line to the optical pumping of other manganese line which overlaps with Mg II k. Still, a quantitative explanation of variations in the Mn I 539.47 nm line parameters with amplitude greater than 1% has not been given and the work here presented aims to shed some light on that problem.
