We have conducted 3.6cm and 6cm radio continuum observations with with the Effelsberg 100m telescope. Additionally, we compiled 40h of filling time with the VLA in D-configuration. The polarized emission reveals a prominent radio halo with the magnetic field lines mainly aligned parallel to the disk. In the south-east of NGC 253 a huge spur dominates, where the magnetic field lines are along the spur. The radio spur coincides with a extension of flat spectral index from the disk into the halo. There, young accelerated cosmic ray (CR) electrons are advected by a collimated thermally driven galactic outflow (chimney). Estimating the magnetic field strength and the plasma β, we investigate the possibility of fast magnetic reconnection in the halo.
