Event-by-event fluctuations of the mean transverse momentum at SPS energy. — •Georgios Tsiledakis1 and Harald Appelshäuser1,2 — 1Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI), Darmstadt — 2Institut für Kernphysik, Universität Frankfurt
Significant non-statistical event-by-event fluctuations and a characteristic centrality dependence have been observed over a wide range of beam energies. These results have been discussed in the context of QGP formation and the possible occurence of the QCD critical point. In this talk, we present recent results from the CERES collaboration on event-by-event fluctuations of the mean transverse momentum in Pb-Au collisions at 158 AGeV/c. Additional information on the origin of the observed fluctuations may be obtained by the study of the scale dependence of the fluctuation strength. Preliminary results on charge-dependent mean pt fluctuations as a function of the angular pair separation, Δφ, and of the separation in pseudo-rapidity, Δη, will be presented as two dimensional maps, for all the combinations of pairs.
