High-resolution RA spectra of transitions to the non-dissociative final states 4pπ−2nlλ of HBr subsequent to 3d−1mlλ excitations are presented. The spectra subsequent to the 3d−15s,5p excitations can be described by the splitting of the 4pπ−2 final state and a coupling of the Rydberg electron, with little vibrational fine structure. However, the spectra due to 3d−17p,8p excitations exhibit complexe features which can be explained with RA transitions to a number of different final states in combination with a vibrational profile for each transition similar to that of the 3d−1 → 4pπ−2 normal Auger process. The observed number of final states cannot be explained with the spectator/shake model for RA spectra but requires the consideration of non-monopole transitions.
