Low energy collisions between free electrons and helium dimer ions (He2+) are of importance in a variaty of physical enviroments ranging from models of the early universe to laboratory plasmas. Especially, the role of dissociative recombination (DR) in the fundamental helium plasma and afterglow has been under debate for decades. The DR of He2+ is also of fundamental interest since non-adiabatic couplings or other pertubative interactions are expected to dominate at low energies [1]. A series of merged beams experiments at the TSR heavy-ion storage ring has been performed both for 3He4He+ (infrared active) [2] and 4He2+ (infrared inactive). We report experimental cross section for DR and dissociative excitation (DE) for these molecular ions up to 40 eV together with experiments eludicating the population of ro-vibrational levels during the measurements.
