The identification of the intrinsic source of CD4 and CH4 from graphite surfaces is a challenging task in tokamaks. Therefore an absorption spectrometer system with tunable infrared diode lasers for the detection of the absolute densities of CH4, CD4 and their break-up products is being installed at TEXTOR. A rather long absorption path (≈ 100 cm) is achieved by using a retro reflector to guide the laser beam back and forth close to the inner graphite wall of TEXTOR. The sensitivity control and calibration of the system can be performed via a gas inlet, which is positioned in the inner wall and can blow the respective gases into the observation path. First results during TEXTOR operation are presented and possible improvements of the optical setup concerning the mechanical stability are discussed.
