We report on an experiment where we use a shaped fs-laser to photoassociate ultracold Rubidium atoms into the molecular electronic ground state. A second fs-laser is used to convert the molecules into Rb2+ ions which are identified via time-of-flight[1]. In order to optimize the pulse shape of the photoassociation laser a genetic algorithm is applied in the scheme of a coherent control experiment[2]. The experimental results are presented. This work is performed in a collaboration between the University of Freiburg and the Freie Universität Berlin.
