Guided Acoustic Wave Brillouin Scattering (GAWBS) generates phase and polarization noise of light propagating in glass fibers. This noise is a limiting factor for measurements at the quantum noise limit. In microstructured fibers, the mechanical coupling between core and cladding is much weaker than in standard fibers. Acoustic modes of the cladding are consequently strongly suppressed in the core. By means of a homodyne detection system we measure the noise spectra for different types of microstructured fibers and compare them with standard fibers. We find a strong suppression of GAWBS noise for frequencies up to 300 MHz.
