Emission spectrum of chaotic lasers with overlapping resonances — •Carlos Viviescas1 und Gregor Hackenbroich21Max-Planck-Institut für Physik komplexer Systeme, Nöthnitzer Str. 38, D-01187 Dresden — 2Universität Duisburg-Essen, D-45117 Essen

We present a quantum theory for lasers in open chaotic resonators with spectrally overlapping resonances. Our theory accurately accounts for both the quantum excess noise present in weakly confining resonators and the chaotic nature of the field modes in chaotic cavities. We study analytically and numerically the complex emission spectrum of such lasers close and far above the laser threshold. We demonstrate that due to the strong correlation between the different overlapping modes the spectrum linewidth collapses but no sharp emission peaks appears. We expect our theory to be suitable for lasers in disordered dielectrics which form so-called random lasers.
