NEW RESULTS ON CS-137 IN WATER, SEDIMENTS, AND TRIBUTARIES OF LAGO MAGGIORE — •Viktorya Putyrskaya1,2, Eckehard Klemt1, and Gregor Zibold1 — 1FH Ravensburg-Weingarten, Doggenriedstr., 88250 Weingarten — 2International Sakharov Environmental University, Dolgobrodskaya str. 23, 220009 Minsk, Belarus
In order to balance Cs-137 fluxes within the lake system of Lago Maggiore and to get an idea on the present radiological situation sediment cores and lake water samples were taken in 2003 and 2004 at four different basins of Lago Maggiore. The vertical distribution of Cs-137, pH, temperature, as well as K+, NH4+ and oxygen content were determined in the water column while the vertical distribution of Cs-137, bulk density, and unsupported Pb-210, as well as K+, NH4+ in the pore water were measured in the sediment. Also water from main tributaries was collected and analysed with respect to its Cs-137 activity concentration. To get information on the association of radionuclides to the different geochemical fractions sequential extraction experiments were performed. The measurements from different basins will be compared and interpreted in this talk. Also, a comparison will be made to other lakes in the pre-alpine region. During 2005 the examination of Lago Maggiore will be continued by sampling in two more basins.
