Planar microcavity structures provide a versatile means to investigate optical properties of semiconductors. When a material is placed in a microcavity, the available states are determined by the electromagnetic modes of the cavity. So the internal electromagnetic field is amplified at the cavity mode and suppressed for nonresonant frequencies.
We report on high finesse double distributed Bragg reflector (R > 0.99) structures, containing a half wavelength layer of the guest-host composite tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (AlQ3) and 4-dicyanmethylene-2-methyl-6-p-dimethylaminostyryl-4H-pyran (DCM) as active organic semiconductor. Photoluminescence measurements show a strong dependence of emission on angle of observation and polarization. In multi microcavity structures we observe the coupling of the cavity modes.
