Flavour Physics, CKM Matrix and Lattice QCD — •Hartmut Wittig — DESY Hamburg
The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix plays a central role for our understanding of CP violation, and a lot of experimental and theoretical activity is devoted to determining its elements with increasing accuracy. However, many important processes that are relevant for the study of the CKM matrix are afflicted with theoretical uncertainties, which arise from strong interaction effects. On the other hand, numerical simulations of QCD formulated on a space-time lattice provide a systematic non-perturbative approach to the problem of large hadronic corrections to electroweak processes which probe the CKM matrix elements. In this talk I chart recent progress in this field and discuss lattice results for leptonic and semi-leptonic decays of heavy mesons, as well as for B0B0 and K0K0 mixing.
