Preliminary results on the performance of the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger System in the 2004 combined test beam at CERN. — •Kambiz Mahboubi, Florian Föhlisch, and Pavel Meshkov — Kirchhoff Institut für Physik, Heidelberg
The ATLAS collaboration has been involved in a "combined test beam", at CERN, during the second half of 2004, performing stand-alone and integrated tests on various sub-systems in a long period of data taking. A full slice of the prototypes of different sub-systems of the ATLAS experiment were installed and tested with un-bunched as well as bunched (structured 25ns) beams of different particles at various energies. Being the last long-period test beam before the start-up of the LHC at 2007, this has been a unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of different sub-systems before the final commissioning of the detector. The Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger system also grasped this chance - participating with a slice composed of a PreProcessor, a Cluster Processor, a Jet-Energy Processor, two Common Merger and 4 ReadOutDriver Modules - to evaluate its components and to exploit its performance.During the structured beam period the L1Calo system delivered triggers to the Central Trigger Processor, generating Level-1 Accepts for the entire test beam setup. All sub-detectors integrated in these combined runs successfully built full events based only on these triggers. This has been a great success for the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter trigger system. First results from the test beam, showing the performance of the system, are presented.
