Experiences from the ATLAS Data Challenge 2 — •Günter Duckeck and John Kennedy — Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Am Coulombwall 1, D-85748 Garching b. München

In order to validate the Offline Computing Model and the complete software suite, ATLAS is running a series of Data Challenges (DC).

The second of these Data Challenges, DC2, was undertaken in 2004. DC2 was divided into three phases: (i) Monte Carlo data production using GEANT4 on three different Grids, LCG, Grid3 and NorduGrid; (ii) an emulation of the first pass reconstruction of data expected in 2007, also called Tier0 exercise, using the MC sample generated in (i); and (iii) a test of the Distributed Analysis model.

Experiences gained during the production of 10 Million events for DC2 are presented with focus on the role of German computing facilities.
