The Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS) is an array of four ground-based telescopes dedicated to gamma-ray astronomy in the 50 GeV to 50 TeV energy band. The first telescope is in operation since November 2004. The three remaining telescopes of VERITAS are currently under construction and expected to be full operational in October 2006. A brief summary of the performance of Telescope one and the construction status of the complete array will be presented.
