Study of the Auger FD response to very inclined showers * — •Oana Tascau, Karl-Heinz Becker, Axel Ewers, Heiko Geenen, Karl-Heinz Kampert, Lorenzo Perrone, Simon Robbins, Viviana Scherini, and Christopher Wiebusch — BU Wuppertal, Gaussstrasse 20, D-42119 Wuppertal

The Pierre Auger Observatory is the largest air shower array ever built and it is able to detect very high energy cosmic rays above 1018 eV. The detector is well suited for studying very inclined air showers, thereby opening an interesting window for high energy neutrino detection. In order to estimate the sensitivity of the Auger Fluorescence Detector (FD) to high-energy neutrinos, a good knowledge of the hadronic background is needed. As an important step towards a neutrino analysis of Auger FD data we study the FD response for inclined showers simulated with CORSIKA.
