Search for supersymmetric neutral Higgs bosons in the decay channel A/H → µ+ µ− in the ATLAS detector — •Georgios Dedes, Nectarios Benekos, Sandra Horvat, Oliver Kortner, Serguei Kotov, and Hubert Kroha — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, München
The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model predicts the existence of five Higgs bosons (h, H, A and H±) whose masses are determined by two independent parameters: the ratio tan β of the two vacuum expectation values and the pseudoscalar Higgs boson mass mA. Motivated by a high muon momentum resolution and identification efficiency achievable with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider, we explore the observability of A → µ+ µ− and H → µ+ µ− signatures in the detector. Even though strongly enhanced compared to the Standard Model Higgs boson decays into two muons, these processes are hidden under a large Z→ µ+ µ− background. The detection of b-jets originating from the gg → bbA/H production processes provides a strong background rejection. In addition, we optimize the suppression of background processes with b-jets in the final state.
