Present Results of the LOPES Experiment — •Aurelian Florin Badea — Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, Institut für Kernphysik, 76021 Karlsruhe
LOFAR (LOw Frequency ARray) [1] will be a new digital interferometer and is an attempt to revitalize astrophysical research with radio wave emission at 20-200 MHz.
A "LOfar PrototypE Station" (LOPES) has been built at the KASCADE-Grande experiment in order to test the LOFAR technology and demonstrate its capability for radio measurements in Extensive Air Showers (EAS).
As a first step, data gained during approx. 9 months by 10 LOPES antennas triggered by the KASCADE Array in case of large shower events (primary energy above 1016 eV) have been considered.
Preliminary analysis results will be presented, in particular remote events, i.e. with shower core far from the field of LOPES antennas but inside the 0.5 km2 area of KASCADE-Grande. Some capabilities of the EAS radio detection in improving the reconstruction of the shower core position and shower direction will be pointed out.
KASCADE-Grande will detect more than 1000 showers above 1017.5 eV. By correlating these events with the LOPES data we will be able to calibrate the radio emission in EAS with high accuracy.
