Chemistry-Climate Modelling with the Unified Model — •Peter Braesicke and John A. Pyle — NCAS-ACMSU, University of Cambridge, UK
Investigating chemistry-climate interactions is crucial for our understanding of future climate change. We have used the stratospheric version of the Met Office’s Unified Model in conjunction with chemistry schemes of different complexity to address a number of questions in this area. We have studied the feedback of mid-latitude spring ozone loss onto winds and tracer distributions, inter-annual variability in high-latitude ozone and ozone loss rates, the impact of sea surface temperatures on the variability of the lower stratosphere, and the impact of El Niño on the lower stratospheric ozone distribution. We will give an overview of our results, emphasising their significance for simulations of future possible climates.
