The Bayesian approach to quantum mechanics - what’s new and what’s good? — •Claus Beisbart — Institut für Philosophie, Fakultät 14, Universität Dortmund, D-44225 Dortmund
The Bayesian approach to quantum mechanics as advocated by Chris Fuchs purports to provide a new interpretation of quantum mechanics. It is built upon the Bayesian view that probability statements express rational degrees of belief. The existence of a wave function is denied and Bayesian updating is used for understanding the measurement process.
In my talk I will shortly introduce the Bayesian approach to quantum mechanics. I will then discuss how it relates to other interpretations of quantum mechanics and what is new about it. I will finally discuss potential advantages and problems of the Bayesian approach to quantum mechanics.
