MAGIC Phase II — •Florian Goebel — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, Föhringer Ring 6, 80805 München
MAGIC is currently the world’s largest single dish ground based gamma ray telescope. The main aim of the MAGIC project is to study the high energy phenomena in the universe in the energy region between 30GeV and several TeV. MAGIC-II, a two 17m telescope system with advanced photon detectors, is designed to lower the threshold energy further and simultaneously to achieve a higher sensitivity in the stereoscopic / coincidence operational mode. The construction of the second telescope will be completed in 2007 in order to allow simultaneous observations with the gamma ray satellite GLAST and AGILE. The design, expected performance and status of MAGIC II will be discussed.
