Development of a readout chip for the GERDA experiment — •Nigel Smale1, Wolfgang Fallot-Burghardt2, Karl Tasso Knöpfle1, Bernhard Schwingenheuer1, and Ulrich Trunk3 — 1Max-Planck-Institut Kernphysik — 2FBE ASIC Design & Consulting — 3Universität Heidelberg
The GERDA experiment under construction at the Gran Sasso Laboratory is searching for neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge. Germanium diodes immersed in liquid nitrogen serve as sources and detectors. Since the detectors are operated in an unprecedented low background environment the analog preamplifiers which are operated close to the diodes in liquid nitrogen have to fulfill stringent requirements on low radioactivity as well as on low noise performance.
A charge sensitive preamplifier is implemented on an ASIC in CMOS technology. Its specifications and design are discussed.
