CVD Diamond Sensor Studies for the Beam Calorimeter of the ILC Detector — •Ekaterina Kouznetsova1, Konstantin Afanaciev2, Igor Emeljanchik2, Christian Grah1, Wolfgang Lange1, and Wolfgang Lohmann11DESY, Germany — 2NC PHEP, Belarus

CVD diamonds are considered as a possible sensor material for the Beam Calorimeter of the ILC detector. This calorimeter will be located in the Very Forward Region and therefore exposed to a large amount of electron-positron pairs originating from beamstrahlung. The radiation hardness of CVD diamond makes it a very attractive material for the use at such high irradiation intensities as it is expected in the Beam Calorimeter region.

Sensor tests with CVD diamond samples produced by Fraunhofer IAF (Freiburg, Germany) and by Element Six were done to explore their performance for the detection of ionizing particles. Electrical properties, charge collection efficiency and the stability of the signal under electromagnetic irradiation were studied.

Beam test measurements were done to examine the linearity of the diamond response over a large dynamic range. The linearity of the response was studied with the particle fluence of up to 107 cm−2 hadrons per 10 ns bunch spill.
