QCD Matrix Elements and Parton Showers — •Simon Plätzer — Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität Karlsruhe
In order to improve the description of jet observables in the region of hard parton emission, Catani, Krauss, Kuhn and Webber have proposed a method [1] to combine tree-level QCD matrix elements with parton shower simulations for e+e−→ jets. This scheme can be extended to the case of hadronic interactions [2].
Recent developments on a CKKW-type ME/PS combination algorithm in the Herwig++ parton shower Monte Carlo are presented. It is discussed, to what extent modifications to the scheme may become necessary to account for the new evolution variables [3] used in Herwig++, which treat heavy quark jets more appropriate.
