b-tagging using the Micro Vertex Detector in the ZEUS experiment at HERA — •Ana Yagues — Wadzeckstrasse 12 10178 Berlin

So far b(bbar)-quark events in ep-scattering at ZEUS were tagged by electron, muon and an associated jet. In this new analysis the information of the Micro Vertex Detector (MVD) is used to detect secondary vertices. Therefore b(bbar)-events can be tagged independently of the muon-jet trigger. This will allow hadronic b-decays to be included in the analysis and to cross check in an independent way results on b-bbar production obtained so far. For that purpose the secondary vertex finding algorithm has been redesigned. High pt-tracks which are associated to a jet were refitted using the exact information of the MVD. Properties of the secondary vertices found, such as the decay length, invariant mass at the secondary vertices or other variables which may allow b-decays to be distinguished from other decay vertices, are investigated using MC data and a strategy for b-tagging using this information is discussed.
