We have studied the correlation of the photon emission from a single selfassembled CdSe/ZnSe Stranski-Krastanow quantum dot under cw excitation from a blue-emitting laser diode. The quantum dot surface density was 1010 to 1011 cm−2. Spectra were taken on mesa structures at T = 4.2K, which contain only a small number of dots. The emission of the CdSe dots was measured by a micro-photoluminescence setup, using a LN2-cooled CCD camera. In the single dot emission antibunching is observed. Therefore a single CdSe dot can be used for the generation of single photons on demand. Stranski-Krastanow-grown quantum dots as used within this work have advantages in comparison to other emitters in the green spectral range, because photobleaching, blinking and spectral diffusion do not occur.
